Reception Theory

1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?
what the creator intends for the audience to understand

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?
The oppiste reading of the creators understandings

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?
The audience might respond to the harry brown trailer as they teenager being young criminal because they kill people and destroy things. This could exceed to where if other teenagers see this they could do what is happening in this world right now

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?
They might reject it because the advert that macdonals have put up might not actually look like the ones that they serve

6) Now find your own advertisement and write a 200 word analysis using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

Image result for zinger double down

The preferred reading for this advert is that this new KFC burger will blow your mind off. This burger will change your taste buds. The producer of this burger has put up this image so that people will know that this is the best burger to be made.

The negotiated reading is that most consumers may take away this burger because it is on of the best with a tasty feeling in your mouth and this is the upgraded burger however this burger can not be improved as all there other burgers are tasty as well. The consumer may decide that they are very happy that they are happy with the current burger that they have.

The opposition's reading is that the consumer may think that KFC is a terrible company and that they don't care about the people who buy there product and that they on care about the money they are getting. The consumer may consult that the advertisement is too extra. This links with the price of the burger and they might look at that negatively

Audience Effects Theory

1) Write a definition of a passive audience:

2) Write a definition of an active audience:

3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory:

4) Write down a media text for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification:

INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE:
 > Why:
IDENTITY:
 > Why:
DIVERSION/ENTERTAINMENT:
 > Why:
RELATIONSHIPS:
 > Why:

5) Re-watch the clip from Blue Planet above and write a paragraph analysing how elements of the clip offer the audience pleasures or
(use media terminology from Uses and Gratifications theory and the 3 Vs - notes outlined above).

Extension: To take this further, select a media text of your own choice, embed it in your blog and write another detailed paragraph analysing the audience pleasures in that product.

1)This is the view that audience takes in information from the media that has the same effect on everyone.

2)This is the more modern and generally accepted view that audiences interact with the media they consume.

3) take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds.

4)

5)
During the blue planet video they go under the sea to show the creatures and all the other fishes. They use high quality cameras. This also shows that sea creatures are very special and they shouldn't be touched or anything. The consumers can take this into to hand think about what they want to do.

Blog feedback and Learner Response

Preethan
Post this in a new blogpost on your Media blog called ‘Blog feedback and Learner Response’ then complete the LR tasks/questions below.
WWW- The Photoshop work on your Fruit bowl is very creative but a lot of blue used!
EBI- There are two major aspects you need to work on to accelerate your progress in Media. Firstly, your written English MUST improve significantly. In your introductory post, you use ‘u’ for ‘you’ and you need to proof read your Incredibles film poster analysis as some of your sentences don’t even make sense. ‘Tis’ is inadequate level for GCSE. You are missing your own advert analysis for denotation and connotation. There are far too many errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar in your work so far. It is vital in EVERY piece of writing you produce that capital letters and full stops are used accurately. Secondly, you must add much more depth to your media analysis. This means writing paragraphs rather than sentences. For example, on the Doctor Who clip analysis, you only offer simple analysis. You need to add WHY the elements you have chosen are interesting for audiences.
LR: Complete and post all missing work urgently: your own advert analysed. You also need to re-do your analysis of the Doctor Who clip and use specific examples from the clip to illustrate your ideas. Then, reflect on your first month of Media. What do you feel is your strongest piece of work so far? What is your weakest? What specific skills or knowledge do you need to develop over the rest of the course? How can you improve the depth and detail of your media analysis?

Denotation and connotation

1) Write an analysis of the Water Aid advert above using denotation, connotation and analysis. What does the advert communicate to the audience?

The advert uses a boy who wants toilets and he doesn't want any graves. This suggest that he is sad and miserable that he hasn't got any toilet to take a poop or a wee.It also links that his family is poor and that they cant afford many things and the tagline show that he wants toilets 'Dig toilets Not graves'.

2) Now choose your own advert from Google images. Add it to your blogpost and write an analysis using denotation and connotation, explaining what the advert is communicating to the audience.

Image result for old advertising
The advert uses a baby to advertise a 7 up this is wrong because during this if bottle  had broken the baby would if cut itself. This suggests that this drink is suitable to drink. It also suggests that a baby can hold a glass bottle which is safe.It also links that 7 up are using babies to pursuade people to drink there drink because if it sutabile for babies it is sutuible for every one.

October assessment learner response

1.
WWW-I think you mostly understand what the question are asking and you pick out examples from the text.
EBI-Your literacy (written English) must be more accurate (spelling + grammar)you want to take GCSES. Sometimes your literacy abscures your intended meaning so your answers don't make sense. This costs you a lot marks.Accuracy is important.

Q7.
A.0
B.1
Q8.1
Q9.2

I have lost a lot of marks because i haven't used a lot media terminology and i most of my work does not make scene.

Q3.I haven't used connotation

Q4. I can identify medium shot but i need to add more information.

Q5. Question 7A i got low marks on this question because my whole paragraph did not make scene.

Q6. They use children in adverts because older people fell more bad for them that they would for older people .Another reason they use kids is because kids have a longer and better future than older people. If you link this to the water aid advert they people feel like those in that country need more toilets.

Another reason they use children is because sometime they do not know what they are doing. If you see a small child about to cross and there was a old lady you most likely will pick the baby up because they are more vulnerable.

We can link this to the water aid advert because they have used a little kid who looks poor and dirty. This shows that he has not had bath and older people (mum) would want to donate some money so that they could afford to get some water to bath and drink.

storyboard

We used over the shoulder shot to show that bully is the one who is the boss and the boy is just the victim

This is the birds eye view shot this shows that boy who is being bullied is less defenceless and that he is not very tough.

This is the extreme close up shot this show that the bully is angry like a red bull and shows his expression to the audience. The audience can tell by the bully's eye that he is viscous.

This is the medium close up shot this zooms into the bully's and the victim's expression. This will give the audience a good view of what the scene is about.
This is a close up shot this show that the victim is hopeless and that he has been defeated. The audience will know this by the emotion of his face.
We use the low angle shot to express that the bully is very powerful. This is shown when he look at the victim very angrily.
We used a normal shot to surprise the audience with a behind the tree shot this shows the boy getting bullied.
We used a medium shot to show that the problem is still going on still. This show the audience better about the students emotions.

This is the establishing shot.We use this shot to introduce the settings and the students. This will give a feeling to the audience how the area.Another reason for this shot is to show that the bully is approaching the victim very cautiously.

This is the medium close up shot.We use this to show the victim being abused and put on to the wall.
